This October, sub-Saharan Africa’s preferred fast-growing gas and power portfolio company—that would be us, Axxela—turned two.
Fully-owned by the premier Africa-focused private investment firm, Helios Investments Partners, Axxela has achieved noteworthy milestones, and furthered the positioning of gas as the fossil fuel to drive industrialization across the continent. We became a designated shipper on the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP); we became the first organization in the Nigeria’s oil & gas industry to achieve a trifecta certification of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018; we achieved favorable financial ratings by two noteworthy ratings agencies, land and made a substantial impact in our host communities by providing amenities, scholarships, and adopting and renovating schools.
As we increase our footprint across the region, quite a number of people have become aware of Axxela’s impact and accomplishments. However, some aren’t quite sure how to properly pronounce our name.
The name Axxela was coined from the two words which drive the company’s vision of being the West Africa’s foremost gas and power portfolio company—Acceleration and Excellence. The word is commonly mispronounced as “Aze-la”, “Ask-ella”, “Ace-ela” and occasionally “Ale-eksa”. Axxela is properly pronounced as Aks-ela and transcribed /æks – elə/.
So, when next you think of a company that is made up of excellence-driven professionals who are delivering innovative energy solutions to empower West Africa, remember to pronounce Axxela properly.
And if you ask, “what’s in a name?”, we will respond, “everything”. Yes, everything. Just as you can see in the video below.
